Event Concluded

Event Description

Participants will make a hardcover concertina book from commercial paper. You will be provided with materials including some handmade papers to make some small collages to include in your books.

The accordion or concertina could be argued to be the most useful book form for book artists. In its straight form it is very easy to display, being free standing with the images available to be read all at once, while in the hand it can be viewed sequentially as in reading a book with traditional form.

The accordion is also the basis of many other bindings, including pocket book, flag book, W-Binding and Tunnel Book to name a few. The workshop participants will learn the basics for folding and covering an accordion.

Tutor, Gail Stiffe, has been making artist books and teaching both papermaking and bookbinding for over twenty years. Her books are held in private and public collections worldwide.
